Empire Inspired: Tony Bowles
After meeting Tony during Fashion Week I instantly picked up on his passion to write. Take a peek below of why I find him so inspiring!
What inspires you?
New York City, as a native New Yorker, I have always been inspired by the fast pace, energy, and culture of the city.
What are your dreams and aspirations?
My dreams and aspirations consist of writing, whether I'm writing a community news letter or for Vogue—I just want to write. Writing is my saving grace and has literally saved my life. I only hope that I can continue writing and creating interesting stories for my readers and to one day be a contributing writer for a major media publication.
How have you worked hard to reach those goals?
It has taken me years, four years to be exact to where I am with my Column. It took long hours, tears, and determination. I never took 'no' for an answer, whether it came to dealing with executives at NBC, ABC, VH1, and other networks. I made myself socially available to meet the right people to build relationships organically, so that people wanted to work with me. I am very fortunate for my readers and now to be approaching 500 Columns and to have interview some of the biggest stars in television still amazes me.
What would you say to others trying to reach their goals?
My advice is to always believe in yourself, because if you don't believe in yourself, no one will either. Be practical and realistic, it's okay to have high dreams, but don't set yourself up for failure. Realize that things take time, and you have to be patient! Again, you have to be patient, with yourself and your work. Lastly, don't be afraid to network, networking is very essential in any career path, and you are always going to need support and help of others.
