Besties In Brooklyn

Besties In Brooklyn
This past weekend Cameron and I set out to discover Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  Although we didn't have set plans the beauty of Brooklyn is
that the city takes on a life of its own.  So, plans are always pointless.  Immediately after arriving we found cool graffiti and paintings on walls which is like a magnet for me to take pictures.  Also, we found the perfect boutique restaurant that served one of my favorites - chicken and waffles with ......wait for it..... BLUEBERRY BUTTER.  Yes this has to be the most fattening yet soul fulfilling meal that I've had in a long time.  And of course with this area being so small Cameron and I ran into her childhood friend who told us abut the Kara Walker exhibit.   Immediately after finishing our food we made our way to see the exhibit.  Her pieces were inside an old factory that showcased children slaves made out of molasses who worked on sugar plantations as well as a massive sphinx made of sugar.  "The exhibit is as much a lesson in history as it is about art. More slaves worked and died on sugar plantations in the new world than on the tobacco or cotton fields of the American south. The free labor and mass production paved the way for worldwide sugar consumption -- an appetite still growing today."-CBS News.  The piece was both thought provoking and moving.  With over 100,000 visitors to the the site it's no question as to why such a large audience was attracted to Kara Walker's exhibit.  After finishing walking through the large factory we scurried by a couple of flea markets and called it a day.  All in all its safe to say what happens in Brooklyn....well.....ends up on my blog.
